Visiting Scholars

Learn about our past visitors.

Meet our next/current visitors.

The Institute is delighted to welcome Visitors to the law school.  Visitors are usually at Osgoode for 2-5 days, although longer and shorter visits can be negotiated with the IFLS Director.

Since 2002 we have hosted scholars from across Canada and around the world.

To contact the IFLS about a possible visit, please email the Institute’s Administrative Assistant, Lielle Gonsalves at lgonsalves@osgoode.yorku.ca.  More information about Osgoode’s visitor programs (and link to application form) here.

York University’s main page is here.

The IFLS will make efforts to provide Visitors with an office at Osgoode, and will make arrangements for computer and library access.   In appropriate cases, the IFLS will also arrange access to an Osgoode reference librarian or to Osgoode special collections.  Visitors will be invited to participate in other activities at the law school.

We hope all our visitors can present at least one public lecture/seminar, either alone or in conjunction with colleagues at Osgoode/York.  In addition, faculty who wish to invite Visitors to the IFLS can create opportunities for the Visitor to meet and engage with faculty and graduate students (for example, in relation to Reading Groups), and/or organize a  lunch or dinner with a small group for the Visitor.

We hope that some Visitors will arrange to work with Osgoode faculty on projects of research and teaching.

The IFLS will reimburse Visitors for economy class travel by air or rail, or for car travel at the University mileage rate.   In the case of short visits, the IFLS will arrange and pay for accommodation for Visitors at the Visitor apartments on the York University campus.  Visitors who wish to stay in hotel accommodation will be reimbursed at the University accommodation rate.

A Note about Graduate Student Visitors to the IFLS: The IFLS welcomes Graduate Student Visitors to the IFLS, but no funding is available.   The IFLS will, however, attempt to arrange for library access and facilitate meetings with IFLS members.  Please inquire using the form below.
